Alternatively, if you recognize your "door," just click on the image to go to your class.

About this site

My name is Andrea Fedi. I live on Long Island, and I work for the University of Stony Brook. This is my personal site, which was created and opened to the public on Oct. 22, 2010. It resides on a server run by DreamHost, my current favorite.

I have posted here some of my digital pictures, plus a few more items that are not strictly academic.

If you're looking for the website of one of my old classes, please proceed to the portal of the wiki called italia: there, for example, you will find the sections reserved to ITL 432 (Fall 2011), and to ITL 313 (Fall 2011). To navigate this site, you can also use the section entitled Visual links, found at the bottom of this page.

I also have another website, campo7.com, which is still served by Yahoo.

Dragon man!

I have always been interested in speech recognition, since the 1990s, when I experimented with IBM's Simply Speaking Gold and then started using Viavoice. Today, I sometimes rely on Windows 7 Speech Recognition (for English), and I make constant use of Dragon NaturallySpeaking for both English and Italian. In fact I discovered recently that Nuance, the maker of Dragon, has included a paragraph on me on their page devoted to Education, even though they misspelled my last name. It was a brief narrative that I had submitted for a contest: I did not win anything, but Nuance still used my story, without telling me (it's all perfectly legal, I suppose, because I'm sure that when I accepted the rules of that contest, I must have waived my rights to privacy). You can check for yourself by going to that page, entitled Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Education. I have used Snagit to copy portions of that page, because I'm sure that sooner or later it will be updated and I might not be included anymore. Click to enlarge.
